What does authenticity mean to you in today’s hip-hop landscape?

Authenticity is standing unshakeable in your own truth rather than chasing temporary industry trends. In today’s commercialized market, it is easy to duplicate whatever style is viral. True authenticity is digging deep into your own spirit and reflecting your actual journey, wisdom, and community realities through the art. It means maintaining creative control over your narrative, creating with a conscious purpose, and refusing to dilute your message for quick validation.

Your career bridges music, martial arts, and mentorship. Which of these disciplines has taught you the greatest lesson about life?

Martial arts laid the absolute structural foundation, but mentorship has taught me the greatest lesson about our collective responsibility. Founding Lost Legacy Martial Arts proved that physical and mental mastery are internal battles. However, stepping into the role of a mentor and artist developer via 12 Tribes Musik shows you that knowledge is empty if you do not pass it down. The ultimate life lesson is that our personal legacy only matters through the lives we build up and the doors we open for others.

You’ve worked both as an MC and a producer. Which role challenges you the most creatively, and why?

The role of the producer and composer challenges me the most because it requires building entire atmospheric worlds from scratch. As an MC, I focus on the sharpness of the pen, the rhyme scheme, and delivering raw truth. As a producer, I am weaving multi-genre tapestries, blending underground hip-hop with grand, cinematic, and symphonic movie themes. Balancing that raw, gritty boom-bap energy with orchestral scale forces me to constantly innovate outside standard hip-hop boxes.

Your collaborations with X Clan and members of the Wu-Tang Clan connect you to some of hip-hop’s most respected legacies. What moments from those experiences have stayed with you the most?

The moments that stick with me aren’t just about recording, but the shared high-level zone of mental alignment (“building”). Operating as a recognized WU-FAM Affiliate means being around veterans who view hip-hop as a sacred culture, a lifestyle, and a spiritual science. Watching how legends approach a track with total devotion and seeing how effortlessly our values click in the studio reinforces that we are all extensions of a much larger, sovereign musical legacy.

Martial arts and hip-hop both require discipline and respect. Where do you see the strongest connection between the dojo and the recording studio?

The strongest connection is the concept of mastery through repetitive, deliberate practice and absolute ego death. In the dojo, you drill a strike thousands of times until it becomes fluid instinct. In the recording studio, whether I am composing an intricate orchestral movement or catching a complex pocket on a beat, it requires that exact same mental focus and stamina. Both spaces are sacred grounds where you must leave your arrogance at the door, respect the lineage of the masters who came before you, and execute your craft with honor.

Your name, Juice Da Witch Docta, is unforgettable. What’s the true story behind it, and what does it represent to you personally?

The name represents spiritual healing, transformation, and possessing the precise “juice”—the vital energy—to shift atmospheres. While my legal name is Noble Jean Phoenix LeGrand-El, “Juice Da Witch Docta” (and my alter egos D’Jedi Master Juice/John Phoenix/ Master Phoenix/ Master Juice/The Final Boss/Jeanius/Brooklyn’s Hero) points to a sonic healer. A witch doctor in traditional cultures is the keeper of secret knowledge, remedies, charms, and community balance. To me personally, it means my music isn’t just entertainment; it is a deliberate, potent medicine designed to wake up the unconscious mind and heal the culture. It call comes from my DNA by way of my Ancestors.

If you could produce one dream collaboration—past or present—who would it be and what kind of record would you create?

It would be a massive, theatrical audio-cinematic experience pairing the sharpest lyricists of the Wu-Tang lineage with a live, powerhouse symphony orchestra. I would love to orchestrate a project where raw, uncompromising, street-conscious lyricism clashes directly with sweeping, dark strings and operatic brass. We would create a timeless audio-movie—a record that feels less like a traditional rap album and more like an epic historical score documenting the trials and triumphs of our people.

Looking back, was there one defining moment when you realized this wasn’t just music—it was your life’s calling?

The shift happened when I realized my music was directly altering people’s mindsets and serving as artist development for the next generation. In the early ’90s underground scene, it became clear that creating tracks wasn’t just a creative hobby. Seeing how young people responded to the conscious messages, and realizing I could merge my martial arts discipline with music to provide a blueprint for survival, transformed it from a career into a lifetime assignment.

If you had the opportunity to speak directly to young artists growing up in neighborhoods like those featured by Culture Street Official, what advice would you give them?

“Own your narrative, guard your mind, and view your art as a sovereign business entity.” Do not let external forces or industry executives exploit your trauma for profit. Focus heavily on your artist development, master the back-end business of the music industry, and remain independent. Most importantly, use your voice to build up your neighborhood rather than glorify its destruction—you are the directors of your own legacy.

Is there an unreleased or released track, beat, or project that means more to you than the public realizes and why?

Projects like Wu-Affiliates Worldwide Vol. 1 and my Orchestras/Soundtracks series hold a deeply sacred weight. While the public hears the finished, polished cinematic hip-hop, those records represent years of independent grind, late-night curation, and pulling together global talent under the 12 Tribes Musik banner. They are sonic monuments of survival, proof that we can build a worldwide musical empire completely on our own terms.

When history looks back on Juice Da Witch Docta, what do you hope people will say about your contribution—not only to hip-hop, but to the people whose lives you’ve touched?

I want history to remember me as a true Renaissance man who used his mastery to heal, elevate, and protect the culture. I hope they say that Noble Jean Phoenix LeGrand-El didn’t just make incredible, cinematic music—he was a Master who lived with honor. I want it written that through Lost Legacy Martial Arts and independent music, I gave people the mental, physical, and spiritual tools to realize their own divine potential. Always remember my slogan, The LEGACY Continues…

http://www.12tribesmusik.com/

Culture Street Official celebrates authentic voices.
